Description including Unit Aims

This unit offers Theatre and Performance Studies' students the opportunity to study abroad as part of their overall degree at Bristol and thus allows them not only to engage with a different educational context but also to enrich their current study by immersing themselves into a different culture. Partner Institutions have been chosen in order to complement existing provision at the University of Bristol as well as to offer the experience of theatre studies and practice in a wider non-UK context. While specific language skills may be acquired while studying abroad, host institutions which deliver a considerable amount of units through the medium of English have been chosen.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Specific learning outcomes will depend on the units selected and studied at the host institution. However, it is anticipated that students will also benefit from the following:

  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of key debates and positions within areas of theatre and performance studies
  • Develop skills in the researching and presentation in written form of complex material appropriate to Level I
  • Experience of Theatre Studies and Practice in a wider non-UK context
  • Experience of different teaching and study methods and styles and the chance to extend knowledge beyond the units that are delivered in Bristol;
  • The opportunity to broaden horizons and be immersed in a new and exciting international environment.

Teaching Information

Dependent on the units selected at the host institution. Most likely, teaching methods will include seminars and lectures.

Assessment Information

Assessment will clearly depend on the host institution and the units of study selected. Students will be expected to select units of study at a level equivalent to University of Bristol Level I. The mark for this unit will be derived solely from the translation of the marks achieved at the host University via algorithms agreed by the University of Bristol.
