Description including Unit Aims

This unit is designed for international students with English as a foreign language, who have met the University's minimum English language entry requirements and wish to develop their competence in English for academic purposes. The analysis of academic texts, both spoken and written, is used to develop the language and skills required for effective communication within the UK higher education context. The four main language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking are developed through integrated practice activities. Attention is also given to raising awareness of the requirements and expectations within the UK higher education study culture.
