Unit Information

The aim of this unit is to build upon the Research Methods and Marketing Metrics unit and engage students in an extended piece of research based upon their assessed proposal. Students will be allocated a supervisor and will be required to discuss the proposal and the resultant feedback with him/her. The aim is to encourage students to reflect upon their proposal and make improvements upon it. They will then be required to present a schedule of work to develop the proposal into a dissertation / extended project report and negotiate a working agreement with their supervisor. They will demonstrate the capacity to organise a coherent programme research to achieve a clear set of objectives. They will then analyse the data and make evidenced recommendations, presenting the resultant work in report format to identified

1) frame a clear, central research question within the project topic chosen

2) identify and critically review literature relevant to the topic and central research question

3) understand and apply an appropriate research methodology, including research ethics process and considerations, to investigate the chosen topic

4) analyse data and/or evidence, where appropriate, and draw apposite conclusions that answer the central research question

5) integrate conclusions into wider academic debates

6) produce a dissertation in a clear, well-written and grammatically-correct style, that conforms to the conventions of academic presentation

How you will learn

Teaching will be delivered through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions including lectures, tutorials, drop-in sessions, discussion boards and other online learning opportunities

How you will be assessed

Dissertation / Applied Extended Project (10,000-12,000 words) (100%)

Students are required to review the feedback on the proposal submitted for the Research Methods and Marketing Metrics unit (ILO1). They are required to address the issues identified and then formulate and implement a piece of marketing research (ILO2, 3).

They are then required to analyse and interpret the results in light of the research objectives and present conclusions and recommendations in their dissertation, referencing all sources correctly and in full (ILO 3, 4). They will provide the partner organisation with an extended executive summary outlining their research and findings.

Resources

If this unit has a Resource List, you will normally find a link to it in the Blackboard area for the unit. Sometimes there will be a separate link for each weekly topic.

If you are unable to access a list through Blackboard, you can also find it via the Resource Lists homepage. Search for the list by the unit name or code (e.g. EFIMM0065).

How much time the unit requires
Each credit equates to 10 hours of total student input. For example a 20 credit unit will take you 200 hours of study to complete. Your total learning time is made up of contact time, directed learning tasks, independent learning and assessment activity.

See the Faculty workload statement relating to this unit for more information.

Assessment
The Board of Examiners will consider all cases where students have failed or not completed the assessments required for credit. The Board considers each student's outcomes across all the units which contribute to each year's programme of study. If you have self-certificated your absence from an assessment, you will normally be required to complete it the next time it runs (this is usually in the next assessment period).
The Board of Examiners will take into account any extenuating circumstances and operates within the Regulations and Code of Practice for Taught Programmes.
