Description including Unit Aims

This unit provides an opportunity for students to pursue a clearly defined specialist interest under the guidance of an academic.

This unit aims to: allow students to explore topics in more depth than is offered within existing taught units in TB1; to develop expertise in an area which interests them; to prepare for the intellectual and organizational demands of the dissertation unit.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the unit students should have (1) developed their abilities for independent research (2) developed their ability to organize their patterns of independent study (3) deepened their knowledge and critical understanding of a small-scale research topic. (4) improved existing literary critical skills by independent reading and research

5,000 word essay on a title agreed with the supervisor which demonstrates 1 through 4
