Description including Unit Aims

Description: This unit gives a general introduction to the ideas and the tasks of Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on their applications across a range of disciplines, their impact on science and industry, and on their mathematical foundations.

Aims: The aim of the unit is to give a broad overview of the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), covering a range of different topic areas and presenting fundamental techniques and algorithms.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  1. Knowledge of standard approaches in artificial intelligence
  2. Experience analysing complex data
  3. Rigorously comparing the performance of competing methods
  4. Modelling the behaviour of autonomous systems
  5. Probabilistic modeling with belief networks
  6. Information retrieval
