Description including Unit Aims

Unit aims are:

• To present selected key areas of development economics focussing on economic transformation of developing countries, and explore some of the major economic policy issues that contributes to such transformation.
• To acquire skills for analysing theoretical issues concerning underdeveloped and developing countries.
• To make aware of the problems and the weakness of the theory, when it fails to fit the empirical evidence.

Intended Learning Outcomes

To equip students with the analytical apparatus needed to assess alternative policy measures directed at improving macroeconomic performance of developing countries.

Teaching Information

Weekly lectures and fortnightly small group tutorials

Assessment Information

Summative assessment: Three-hour closed book examination in summer term: 100%. The examination will test the ability of students to critically analyse a range of policy measures designed at improving macroeconomic performance in developing countries,

Formative assessment: Each student will submit one essay, randomly distributed from a set of five questions.
