Description including Unit Aims

This unit introduces students to the practices and basic technologies required for filmmaking. Covering areas such as directing, producing, cinematography, editing, post-production and safe working on location, this unit will ensure that students learn introductory craft skills that can be used in all units with a filmmaking component. The unit is assessed through a reflexive account in which students reflect on their practice and leaning within the unit.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate proficiencies in utilising a range of filmmaking technologies;

2. produce work showing capability in operational aspects of film and television production technologies, systems, techniques and professional practices;

3. apply key production processes and professional practices relevant to film and television industries;

4. demonstrate knowledge of the ways in which film and television and their attendant technologies make possible different kinds of aesthetic effects and forms;

5. evaluate their own work in a reflexive manner, with reference to academic and professional issues, debates and conventions;

6. demonstrate knowledge and use of safe working practices.
