In this unit the following topics are taught:
How to write a systematic literature review
How to make a scientific poster
How to present a scientific poster
Public understanding of science
The students will develop their skills in the above by:
Writing an extensive literature review on the subject of their subsequent research project
Making and presenting a poster based on their literature review
Writing a lay summary of the background to their proposed research project
Students will be trained to:
1. Write a concise, systematic and critical literature review.
2. Discuss omissions and weaknesses in the state of knowledge of the reviewed field.
3. Specify hypotheses and experimental approaches for their research project.
4. Present the conclusions of the literature review in the form of a scientific poster.
5. Communicate their understanding and knowledge of the reviewed subject in a form suitable for a lay audience.
