The unit will provide a structured and supervised opportunity for final year students to produce a practice-based project on a topic of their interest, subject to approval by the unit convenor, within the area of film and television studies. The student will normally be one of a small production group of 4 students, although this may be open to flexibility depending upon the nature of the project and the approval of the unit convenor.
Unit aims:
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. identify, and creatively engage with formal choices which realise, develop and challenge existing practices and traditions, and with the possibilities and constraints involved in production processes;
2. characterise some of the ways in which individuals, or collaborative project-oriented teams, conceive, execute and complete their work in creative industries;
3. produce work showing advanced skills in operational aspects of film and television production technologies, systems, techniques and professional practices;
4. manage time, personnel and resources effectively by drawing on planning, organisational, project management and leadership skills;
5. experiment, as appropriate, with forms, conventions, languages, techniques and practices;
6. work in flexible, creative and independent ways, showing self-discipline, self-direction and reflexivity;
7. organise and manage a supervised, self-directed project;
8. worked productively in a group, showing abilities at different times to listen, contribute and lead effectively;
9. demonstrate knowledge and use of safe working practices.
Weekly seminar and 5 x group or individual supervisions, supported by self-directed tasks where appropriate.

How much time the unit requires
Each credit equates to 10 hours of total student input. For example a 20 credit unit will take you 200 hours
of study to complete. Your total learning time is made up of contact time, directed learning tasks,
independent learning and assessment activity.

Assessment
The Board of Examiners will consider all cases where students have failed or not completed the assessments required for credit.
The Board considers each student's outcomes across all the units which contribute to each year's programme of study. If you have self-certificated your absence from an
assessment, you will normally be required to complete it the next time it runs (this is usually in the next assessment period).
The Board of Examiners will take into account any extenuating circumstances and operates
within the Regulations and Code of Practice for Taught Programmes.
