This unit introduces the analytical and numerical techniques that are used in the electromagnetic and thermal design of modern high performance AC machines, in particular focussing on the design of AC induction motors and brushless AC permanent magnet machines. The unit builds on previous Yr 2 and Yr3 electromechanical energy conversion courses (EENG 27000 and EENG 37000). A second unit EENGM7041 Electrical Drives explores the control of AC machines.
