Description including Unit Aims

Finance is at the heart of any contemporary organisation, from multi million pound international companies to local charities, yet often the people making major decisions within these organisations have only a sketchy idea of what the financial implications of their decisions will be. This unit seeks to demystify the world of accounts and finance, using a practical case study based approach, centred round well-known UK companies. As accountants often challenge managers about their budgets and financial decisions, so managers should be able to challenge their finance department in a two-way dialogue, built on a mutual understanding of the issues involved. Anyone who works in an organisation and has to make decisions which impact on the results of the company will find that this unit allows them to understand the interactions between various parts of the business more clearly and to appreciate the financial constraints under which modern organisations operate.
