A first degree or equivalent professional training plus some relevant experience of teaching. Applicants need to be involved in delivering teaching on a regular basis. This will enable them to undertake practically-related assignments as well as to put into practice their learning from the Certificate as they progress through this and subsequent modules |

This module will introduce learners to key concepts relating to planning, delivery and assessment of learning within their own subject area.
It will also incorporate elements of the programme’s three vertical themes:
- learning technology in teaching & learning - evaluation of the effectiveness of teaching and of courses - respect for equality and diversity
Description: This core unit is the foundation of your learning on the programme. It is a focused introduction to the essential skills and understanding you will need to plan, teach and assess more effectively. You will be learning about this through interactive workshops with other professionals, practice teaching sessions, reading, individual and group tasks.
By the end of this unit, learners should be able to:
1. Design and plan learning activities
2. Teach and support learning
3. Assess and give feedback to learners
Teaching methods will be drawn from a wide range of approaches including: small group styles, lecture, discussion, debate, presentations, case studies, role play, interactive whole-class teaching, tasks which apply new learning, video critique, distance and e-learning elements.

Summative: a critical account of two teaching sessions with reference to key concepts and techniques presented in the unit.
Formative: group and individual feedback plus online activities.
