Description including Unit Aims

The Law Research Project requires final year law students to engage in an extended piece of legal research. General guidance is provided by the unit director and specific guidance will be provided by members of the academic staff in their areas of expertise. The unit is assessed by way of a single piece of written work of 5,000 words presenting, and engaging with, the topic in question.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this unit a successful student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate that they can carry out independent legal or socio-legal research
  • Demonstrate that they can critically engage with a topic area
  • Demonstrate that they can construct and sustain a coherent argument through an extended essay

Teaching Information

One introductory lecture and structured contact with Project Adviser.

Assessment Information

One 5,000 word summative essay.

The assessment will assess all of the intended learning outcomes for this unit.

Project Advisers set initial starting points for reading; thereafter students must generate their own reading and references.
