Description including Unit Aims

The unit follows on from the H-level unit AENG34140 Experimental Aerodynamics. Its aims are:- • To familiarise students with basic image processing techniques as many measurement metrologies are nowadays image-based. • To give students a basic knowledge of the most common advanced data analysis techniques in terms of their working principle and range of application • To demonstrate applications of the advanced measurement and data analysis techniques in the field of aero-elasticity and bio-inspired flight.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the course students will: • Be able to perform elementary image analysis to deduce basic parameters. • Understand and have a working knowledge of most common advanced data analysis techniques. • Understand the applications of data analysis techniques in the field of aero-elasticity • Be able to produce a well-designed and efficient experimental programme based on a wider knowledge of data extraction techniques.

• 75%: 2 hour examination • 25% coursework on the implementation of image analysis techniques and data post-processing
