Description including Unit Aims

Mandatory for MSci students. The main body of the project is not to exceed 10,000 words (excluding the reference list, tables and appendices). The project is to be based on empirical investigations carried out by the student, with guidance from the project Supervisor (approx. 12 tutorials). Students should aim to achieve the format required in journal articles (journals of the American Psychological Association and the British Psychological Society serve as exemplars). Resources will be provided (e.g., access to psychology participant pool, research costs) in order to facilitate a substantial project. The aim is to carry out a project substantial enough that it could be submitted for publication. Students will give a presentation of their work in a conference talk format.

Intended Learning Outcomes

The project provides students with the opportunity to use and consolidate their research, writing, and speaking skills that have developed over the first 3 years of the programme. Working with the guidance of a supervisor, you will design, develop, run, analyse and write up a piece of original research.
