Unit Information

Students will be required to build part of an electro-mechanical system and control/feedback electronics to drive it. Using knowledge from previous units and associated lectures, students will be required to perform calculations to optimise their designs. Final assessment of system performance will be reported and discussed.

Your learning on this unit

On successful completion of this project, students will be able to:

  1. Understand and apply concepts relating tomechanical and electrical components to create a complete electro-mechanical system design
  2. Design and build elements of an electro-mechanical energy conversion system (such as gear stage, amplifier and/or signal conditioning electronics)
  3. Critically assess performance of design systems
  4. Use simulation packages (SIMULINK) to predict performance.
  5. Report on measured performance of system and compare with expected performance
  6. Comment on the shortcomings of the design and suggest reasons for differences in expected and measured behaviours of system.
  7. Conduct research into system components to understand their operation and performance.

How much time the unit requires

Assessment
The Board of Examiners will consider all cases where students have failed or not completed the assessments required for credit.
