Group industrial projects will be based on real problems set by external clients, which are tackled by groups of 4-6 students. The students steer their own projects, managing their own small budget, and keeping formal minutes of regular project meetings which are fed back to an academic acting in a consultative role. At the end of the project, the students produce a joint report and presentation for their academic consultant and the client. Assessment has both group and individual elements. Students should be able to: Demonstrate teamwork skills, including management, setting objectives, organising tasks, delivering results, a joint report and presentation on time Run formal meetings, with timely minutes Demonstrate the skills needed to perform research in the project area, including practical skills needed for the project, computational skills, time management etc as required Write a joint report Give a presentation and liaise with the client and academic consultant Gain an appreciation of industrial needs and future opportunities.
Students are expected to work independently engaging their accademic supervisor and the client as neccessary.
Formative Assessment: Feedback will be provided on the interim presentation Summative Assessment:
15% Group organisation
35% Group report
20% Group Presentation
30% Individual Contribution.
