Description including Unit Aims

This unit forms part of the taught component of the EngD programme in Composites Manufacture. The purpose of the unit is to introduce Research Engineers to basic accounting, project planning and management, business practice, ethics and basic cost modelling.

Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be able to:

  1. Appreciate the range of mechanisms via which a variety of technologies can generate commercial value.
  2. Understand the role of intellectual property regimes/complementary assets in determining appropriate commercialisation strategies (e.g. licensing, standard setting, co-operation, new business start-up).
  3. Understand traditional/contemporary marketing tools and techniques for analysis of technology markets.
