The unit seeks to offer an overview of the history and development of British television drama from 1936 to the present. It will deliver a broad view of generic, formal and stylistic elements, noting in particular the way these arise from technological and institutional practices and/or constraints, before attending in depth to selected exemplary programmes and series. The emphasis in detailed analytic work will be on contemporary broadcast programmes and series and their relation to current cultural concerns.
