This optional unit encompasses these sections. 3D rotational dynamics are considered (e.g. 'gyroscopic' effects and Euler's equations). Lagrange's equation is used to determine the differential equations of motion of systems. This is extended to the analysis of the dynamics of general multi-degree of freedom systems. Finally, some of the attributes of non-linear systems are briefly explored. The course is supported by examples sheets and the use of Matlab demonstrations as appropriate.
Aim:
The aim of this unit is to expand upon the students’ knowledge of dynamics.
On completion of the unit, students should be able to analyse 3-D rotational dynamics and multi-degree of freedom dynamical systems.
This is a 22-hour lecture-based course. The course is supported by examples sheets and the use of Matlab/Simulink demonstrations as appropriate.
2 hour examination in May/June.
