Description including Unit Aims

FOR SOCRATES/ERASMUS STUDENTS ONLY. This sub-unit consists of two elements: Soil Mechanics 2 - to enable students to gain a sound grasp of the fundamentals of soil material behaviour covering, permeability, effective stress, stress and strain, Mohr's circles of stress and stress paths, laboratory testing of soils, one- dimensional compression, shear strength of saturated soils, suction and capillarity, compaction; Geotechnical Analysis 2 - to introduce students to some methods of geotechnical analysis covering seepage and flow-nets, earth pressures, and slope stability.
