Description including Unit Aims

The unit will cover: foundations of commercial law; contract structures; theoretical foundations; codification; topics in the law of agency; problems in domestic sales I - bulk goods; problems in domestic sales II - retention of title; international sale of goods - cif and fob contracts; financing of international trade; assignment and receivables financing; commercial credit and security - real security and personal security.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • To build upon earlier studies in contract law and personal property law and to gain an understanding of how those basic concepts apply to the range of commercial circumstances
  • To develop understanding of the role of case analysis, statutory interpretation and academic opinion in the determination of commercial disputes
  • To further develop skills in legal reasoning and critical analysis.

10 seminars of 2 hours each plus enhancement sessions

Assessment Information

Formative assessment: students should do one, and may do two pieces of formative work Summative assessment: the unit will be assessed by a 3 hour examination.
