Volunteering

The Theatre Collection has an active volunteer group and we always welcome new volunteers so do get in touch!

Our volunteers assist us in fulfilling the Theatre Collection’s mission and aims in line with our TC Statement of Purpose (PDF, 68kB) and we have a range of projects to suit different levels of experience and availability.

Our volunteers are a valuable resource and we are keen to encourage and build on this diverse and flexible support. Our Volunteer Scheme enables us to work with our local community, providing an outlet for new skills and perspectives by harnessing the talent and experiences available and providing opportunities for development.

Special Volunteers Call Out for 'I Went to a Marvellous Party'The Theatre Collection are looking for volunteers to act as stewards for an exciting project with live artist Tom Marshman.

The work ‘I Went to a Marvellous Party’ is a collaboration with artist Tom Marshman inspired by the archive of celebrated theatre designer Oliver Messel and supported by Arts Council England.

The new work is framed around the familiarity of a dinner party, drawing on items in the archive to bring to life the myriad characters which populate Messel’s inherently theatrical world. As ‘Master of Ceremonies’ Marshman will be performing different characters and inviting visitors to interact with the work. Stewards will be responsible for signposting visitors to the event space, sharing publicity outside the venue, engaging with the public and helping audiences feel at ease interacting with the work, supporting the events manager to ensure the smooth running of the event. Note that the events are open all day and are not ticketed with drop-in visits encouraged.

Volunteers will gain:
• Knowledge of the Oliver Messel Archive and Theatre Collection more widely
• Experience and training in interpreting and sharing a live work with the public
• Experience of working with an accredited museum and archive
• Experience of events production and stewarding
