Belonging Together: Race inclusion at Bristol

Of Bristol’s 2023 intake, 23.1% of Home undergraduate students were from Asian, Black or minority ethnic backgrounds, up from 14.5% in 2016. This does not include our international students. 9.6% of students were Asian, 3.2% of students were Black, and 8.8% of students were from mixed ethnic backgrounds.

In the past 5 years, the University has seen a significant increase in applications, offers and enrolments from students from Asian, Black and mixed heritage backgrounds. We are committed to continuing this trend and have made explicit commitments in our Access and Participation Plan to increase the proportion of students from ethnic groups that are currently underrepresented at the University.

The city of Bristol

The city of Bristol is the largest in South West England, and our students come to us from all over the UK, and the world. Home to people from more than 180 countries, 45 religions and 91 languages, Bristol’s distinct neighbourhoods reflect the city’s diverse character. This includes the street art and music venues of Stokes Croft, the famous carnival of St Paul’s, Grand Iftar and the multicultural eats of Easton.
