Next academic year 2021/22: information for current students

Our plans

Coronavirus has presented challenges for everyone over the last year, but it has also presented opportunities for us to learn and to re-think our teaching and learning strategies. We are committed to give you an experience rich in research, helping you to apply your knowledge in different contexts, and challenging you to think in new ways.


We want to offer you as much in-person activity as possible next year. This must be within the boundaries of what we expect will be safe by the beginning of next academic year. Find out about our teaching plans for 2021/22.

International students

We're aware that travel restrictions may delay some students arriving in Bristol for the start of the 2021/22 academic year. Keep up to date with the latest UK government guidance to ensure that your visa applications and travel to campus takes place at the best possible time.

Support for international students travelling to Bristol this September

The University will help with the costs of coronavirus testing and quarantine where required. If you are arriving from or have travelled through:

  • green list country, we will cover the cost of the test package you need.
  • an amber list country, we will cover the cost of the test package you need. 
  • red list country, we will reimburse you for the cost of this hotel stay (currently £1,750).

Study Abroad and Erasmus students

Study Abroad and Erasmus students are expected to be present in Bristol for their studies in 2021/22, and are not allowed to carry out your exchange remotely. Contact the Global Opportunities Team email:, if you have any queries about your course.

Eligibility for travel support

This support is available to all continuing international students who will be arriving in Bristol for the start of the 2021 academic year.

If you leave the UK during the academic year, you may require a further period of quarantine or testing when you return.

We will not be able to provide support to you for any additional periods of quarantine.

We are not able to provide support for quarantine or testing for any dependants or family members who travel to the UK with you.

If the government guidance and requirements change, we reserve the right to review this support package.
