International student handbook

‌Download the International student handbook 2019 (PDF, 3,751kB) for essential information on living in the UK and services available to support you.

When to arrive

If you will be living in a University of Bristol residence you should aim to arrive when your accommodation opens, you will receive this information from the accommodation office. If you arrive before this you will need to book a hotel.

If you have already arranged private accommodation, check with your landlord when you can move in before booking travel.

If you need to find accommodation, read our advice about how to find private accommmodation in Bristol.

At the border

See the UK Border Force guide to faster travel through the UK border and watch the videos in our playlist to help you through passport control and customs when you arrive at the UK Border.

If you are on a short-term study visa, do not use eGates at the airport as you will not get the required stamps in your passport. You need to see a Border Officer in person.

Getting to the University of Bristol

You will need to organise your own travel to Bristol once you have arrived in the UK
