Last week the School marked the graduation of students from our postgraduate taught (Masters) and research (PhD) programmes with a reception for family and friends in the grounds of Goldney Hall.

In a toast to the new graduates, the Head of School, Esther Dermott said, “Congratulations to all our new graduates - we know that their learning in applied social sciences is the first step to careers that will make real difference to individuals, families, policy and wider society as a whole.”

A number of prizes were also awarded at the event in recognition of excellence in academic study:

Public Policy

  • Best Overall Student (1/1) – Akex Akerman
  • Best overall student (2/2) – Stefan Zylinski
  • Best Dissertation – Anwen Jones
  • Best international student /Kobra Ahmadi award (1/2) – Maria Rivera Rivera
  • Best international student /Kobra Ahmadi award (2/2) – Hongyang Zhang

Nutrition, Physical Activity and Public Health

  • Impact Award - Qionglin Wu
  • Best Dissertation - Rosie Sadler
  • Best International student - Paris Dickinson

Social Work and Advanced Social Work

  • The Liz Wilson Memorial Award for Best Overall Achievement (Social Work) - Robin Bignall
  • Best Dissertation/Theresa O'Neil Memorial Award (Advanced Social Work) - Louise Carvell
  • Best Dissertation (Social Work) - Nick Aslett

Disability Studies

  • Best dissertation (1/1) – Lorna Browne
  • Best dissertation (2/2) – Christopher McCormick

Policy Research

  • Best dissertation – Anthony Musiwa
