Press release issued: 19 December 2019
The committee will make funding decisions for the annual Research for Social Care (RfSC) funding call. RfSC is part of NIHR’s ongoing efforts to build and improve social care research in England, through creating high quality evidence and building capacity for research in this important field.
RfSC Committee Chair David Abbott is also Head of the Norah Fry Centre for Disability Studies and an Associate Director for the NIHR School for Social Care Research. His research and teaching has focused on the lives of disabled children, young people, adults, their families, allies and associated health, education and social care services.
The national committee for RfSC is made up of approximately 20 members, including individuals from social care practice and academia, covering areas such as qualitative methods, statistics, health economics and trials, as well as public involvement members.
Professor David Abbot said, “I am delighted to take up the role of the Chair of this committee. This funding opportunity signals NIHR's continued focus on and investment in research in adult social care. I hope we will be able to fund studies that are exciting, innovative and which have strong collaborations as part of their design.”
