Comenius
University in Bratislava is the oldest university in the Slovak Republic.
It was founded on June 27th, 1919 and follows the university tradition
of the Academia Istropolitana, which was established in Bratislava by
Matthias Corvinus, the Hungarian King, in 1465.
The university's core strategic objectives are:
- to sustain and develop its identity as a research and teaching institution
of the highest international quality;
- to provide an outstanding educational environment, supporting study
across a broad range of academic disciplines;
- to produce graduates not only with high personal and professional
achievement but also with high human qualities;
- to enhance the scientific and cultural vision of society as well
as its economic well-being.
The Faculty of Medicine (founded in 1919) has a Department of Pediatrics
which is divided into two Pediatric Clinics (1st and 2nd), Clinic of
Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Cardiologic Center and several specialized
Clinics (Dermatology, Neurology, Ophthalmologic, ETN). All of them are
seated at the Children’s Teaching Hospital (in Slovak language
Children’s Faculty Hospital).
1st and 2nd Pediatric Clinics have 120 beds and more than 10 specialized
outpatient departments. The Children’s Teaching Hospital admits
patients from all over the Slovakia and serves as a central institution
for pediatric care in Slovakia.
Project Role
- Recruitment and atopic determination of mothers
- Acquisition of questionnaire information for epidemiologic assessment
of in utero and post natal exposure
- Immunoglobulin E determination in cord blood and peripheral blood
samples
The Team
Dr Peter Ciznar,MD, PhD, is
an assistant professor with interests in allergology. He has particpated
in several international research projects investigating allergic diseases
amongst children.
