Research interests
Rahul Bhatnagar is a Clinical Lecturer at the Academic Respiratory Unit.
His research interests include the management of recurrent pleural effusions, especially those caused by malignancy, and the integration of novel technology into the diagnostic and therapeutic pathways for patients with pleural disease. He completed his PhD in 2015, with the core of his thesis made up of the design and co-ordination of two multi-centre clinical trials: The TAPPS Trial which compared talc poudrage at thoracoscopy with standard bedside talc slurry in the management of malignant pleural effusions; and the IPC-PLUS Trial in which patients with an indwelling pleural catheter (IPC) for malignant effusions were treated with an additional installation of talc slurry to try and improve pleurodesis rates.
