Early Modern Theatre in a Digital Age

Led by Martin White, Professor of Theatre at Bristol, a group of professional actors, clothed by Shakespeare's Globe in London and working in candlelight, explore a range of issues surrounding indoor theatre performance in the early seventeenth century. Performing on the reconstruction, they were filmed simultaneously from a range of viewpoints in the theatre by a professional film crew, using new High Definition film cameras capable of working in very low light levels. Working with PARIP the footage will be transferred to an interactive DVD, where the action can be viewed from different perspectives. Additional information on the DVD will include a range of historical documents and illustrations, new essays on aspects of theatre history and research, and a navigable Virtual Reality model of the original playhouse.
