Hosted by the Centre for Health, Humanities & Science and the South, West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership (SWW DTP)
This multidisciplinary workshop will bring together researchers from across different disciplines (e.g., medicine, arts and humanities, sciences, and social sciences) to explore a practice-based approach to research using blackout poetry and collage. The theme of the workshop focuses on common misconceptions, widely held beliefs and taboos surrounding health and healthcare (e.g., taboos about dieting and weight loss, mental health, menstruation, pregnancy, breastfeeding, disability, alternative medicine, vaccination, witchcraft, myth, and magic to name a few).
Part one will provide attendees with an opportunity to produce their own poem using blackout poetry as a method. Part two will guide through the process of creating a collage inspired by the poem, representing ideas surrounding popular and or controversial public health taboos.
All materials will be provided, you may attend all or part of the workshop.
