Important Update on Library Seat Booking

We are making changes to the library seat booking system that will improve the availability of slots across the day. To configure these changes on the live system we need to suspend bookings beyond Sunday March 28th whilst these updates are made. On Monday March 29th bookings will reopen.

How is the system changing?

The change we are making is the introduction of fixed booking slots where each booking has a fixed start and finish time. This change is in response to feedback around the number of 15-30 minute gaps that have been generated using flexible start and finish times.  To support equitable use of study space there will still be a weekly cap on the number of slots you can book which will be adjusted according to available capacity. From March 29th you will be able to book up to 7 slots per week (Sunday to Saturday). Most slots will be 2 hours long, but some will be slightly shorter or longer to factor in opening/closing times.

To get the best out of the booking system it is important that you plan your library time; slots fill up quickly and consequently ‘same day’ bookings are unlikely to be available. For this reason, we recommend that you look a couple of days ahead – you can typically expect to find plenty of advance choice of booking slots across all our open locations. You may need to take a more flexible approach to the timing of your study as availability is often better at the beginning and end of the day.  Remember: bookings can be made up to two weeks in advance so if you know what time of day and location best suit your study needs we advise you to plan ahead.
