Printing from Windows


  • On Vista or Windows 7, click the Windows button and find the Search text box.

    On Windows 8, point your mouse to the top right corner of the screen so that the Charms appear and then click Search. On a touchscreen swipe in from the right edge of the screen to show the Charms and then press Search.

    On Windows 10, click the Windows button and find the Search text box, enter Devices and Printers. Select Add a printer, then The printer that I want isn't listed, and then Select a shared printer by name

  • Enter the server address and printer name in the Search text box, (see the List of printers page for these details).

       \\ServerAddress\PrinterName

    For instance, for the student Print Release printers type:

       \\is-print3.pcr.bris.ac.uk\Print_Release_B&W  (For black and white student prints)

            or

       \\is-print3.pcr.bris.ac.uk\Print_Release_Colour  

    (For colour student prints)

  • Click on the magnifiying glass icon to search and a window similar to the following will appear, as the printer drivers install.

  • If this does not work then click the Start button, type run and press Enter. In the box which pops up, type the server address and printer name and click OK to start installing the printer.
  • If you are prompted to login then use UOB\yourusername as the username. For instance, if your username is ab12345 then use UOB\ab12345 as the username and your normal University password when connecting to the printer.
  • The print queue will be added to your computer, to be chosen when printing.
  • Students using Print Release can collect printouts from any Print Release printers, located around the University.
