Removing the Offsite Proxy

Instructions for removing the Offsite Proxy

Follow the instructions below depending on your operating system and web browser:


Please note: our automated tool should disable the proxy on Internet Explorer and Google Chrome for Windows machines. Save the file and close your browsers before running it.

If that doesn't work, please follow these simple manual instructions.

Internet Explorer

  • Press Alt+T to see the "Tools" menu
  • Select "Internet Options" (the bottom item)
  • Now select the "Connections" tab
  • and choose "LAN settings"
  • Untick all boxes
  • Press "OK" and then "OK" again.

Google Chrome

  • Click on the three lines, top right and then choose "Settings"
  • + Show advanced settings (at the bottom)
  • Under "Network", click "Change proxy settings..." box (3/4 down)
  • Click the "LAN settings" box
  • Untick all boxes
  • Press "OK" and then "OK" again.


  • Go to Options (For the latest version, click on the three lines, top right > Options)
  • Advanced
  • Network
  • Settings
  • Set to "No proxy" (top option)
  • Press "OK" and then "OK" again.


  • Open System Preferences.
  • Open Network.
  • Open the drop down menu next to 'Location' at the top of the window.
  • Select 'Edit Locations...'
  • Select the entry for the UoB proxy, and click the '-' icon.
  • Click 'Done', and then click 'Apply'.
