Setting up your connection

Obtain the Microsoft Remote Desktop application

  • Users of UoB Managed Macs can obtain Microsoft Remote Desktop via Managed Software Center.
  • Users of personally owned Macs can obtain Microsoft Remote Desktop via the Mac App Store.

Configure the Gateway

  • Open Microsoft Remote Desktop from your Applications folder:
  • Click the "Preferences" icon to open the Preferences window. Click the "Gateway" option to access the Gateway configuration menu:
  • Click the '+' icon to add a new Gateway. Configure the settings as follows:
    • Gateway name: UoB Gateway
    • Server: UoB-Gateway.cse.bris.ac.uk
    • User name: UoB\Your_UoB_username
    • Password: Your UoB password
  • Click the red button in the top left to close the Preferences window.

Configure the connection to your UoB PC

  • Click the "New" icon to open the Connection configuration window.
  • Configure your connection as follows:
    • Connection name A meaningful name to identify your UoB PC.
    • PC name The FQDN of your UoB PC. This is likely to be IT-Service-Tag.users.bris.ac.uk.
    • Gateway Select 'UoB Gateway' from the drop down menu.
    • User name UoB\your_UoB_username
    • Password Your UoB password
    • Configure the resolution as per your personal preferences. This may take some trial and error to determine a suitable setup.
  • Click the red button in the top left to close the Connection window.

Start the connection

  • Your Microsoft Remote Desktop application window should now look like this:
  • To start the connection, double click the Connection item, or click the 'Start' icon above.

The following alternative methods of accessing your UoB Mac are available:
