Gender-Based Initiatives

Bristol Women's Mentoring Network

This network is being piloted from April to November and aims to offer support to women at a career stage where they may be exploring their career options and deciding their next steps. There was a very positive response from 255 women who completed an initial expression of interest in being a mentee, with 62 women interested in being a mentor.

During February and early March, two launches of the scheme were held which were very well attended.  The final stages of matching for those women who have committed to the scheme (120 mentees and 45 mentors) are now being completed.

Whilst this pilot project is for women only now, it’s  anticipated that it’s adapted and expanded in the future to meet different needs and widen participation.

Female Leadership Initiative (FLi)

This first internal women-only development programme for Bristol has been offered to all Aurora applicants who were unable to attend the course in 2019.  22 women from both Academic and Professional Services joined the programme in March which will run to July.
This bespoke programme named FLi (Female Leadership Initiative) is designed to be highly interactive, with a focus on peer and action learning. It is being co-created, starting with a focus on leadership identity, mindset and impact.

Through review and evaluation, this pilot project may become the future programme for aspiring women in leadership for Bristol and an internal alternative to the Aurora programme.
