Paul Statham: New project on return migration

8 September 2010

Professor Paul Statham and Dr Marta Bolognani have been successful in acquiring significant funds for their contribution to an international project on return migration.

Professor Paul Statham and Dr Marta Bolognani, in conjunction with the Peace Research Institute, Oslo are taking part in the Possibilities and Realities of Return Migration (PREMIG) Project. This international research into understanding and explaining patterns of return migration among non-Western migrants is funded by the Research Council of Norway  and is the largest grant they have ever funded. £210k of this funding will allow the Bristol team to work on the project from January 2011 to December 2014.

Professor Statham, Research Director for the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies, notes that this grant provides recognition for the burgeoning research field of migration and transnationalism which is rapidly becoming one of the specialities of the Centre for the Study of Ethnicity and Citizenship.
