Flexible self test quiz making using Hot Potatoes

There are limits to the effectiveness of many things when used repetitively or without diversity. It is sometimes desirable to mix the kinds of assessment to enhance engagement and depth understanding.

Example of Crossword

Hot Potatoes 6 is an assessment authoring tool that is freely available to University of Bristol academics, it is not open source. It enables extended self test quizzes such as creating interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises. Wimba Create has inbuilt assessment functionality such as gap fill or multiple choice. We will here be looking at embedding the outputs of the Hot Potatoes programme and functionalities above and beyond those already available through Wimba Create.

The tutorial for using this system as produced by the developers themselves can be found here - http://hotpot.uvic.ca/wintutor6/tutorial.htm

For advice further to this on how to access Hot Potatoes or use it please contact e-learning@bristol.ac.uk .
