Workshop organised by Dr Erdin Ibraim and Dr Paul Vardanega
We would like to invite you to the 15th UK Travelling Workshop – GeoMechanics: from Micro to Macro (GM3), which will be held at the University of Bristol. The workshop is an event focussing on the latest advances in the micro-mechanics of geomaterials, and their application to geotechnical engineering.
The GM3 was firstly held in 2003 and the series has been running annually for the past decade with the aim of bringing together researchers and engineers in geotechnical engineering to exchange knowledge and ideas in an open and friendly atmosphere. It also serves as an active platform to promote dialogues with researchers in particle technology, mathematics, and physics.
All attendees will be provided with an opportunity to present. Postgraduates and PhD students are most welcome. There will be substantial time for discussions. The official starting time is 12.00 on Monday the 17th of December with lunch followed by a technical session. The closure is on 18th at 14.00, including the lunch. A dinner is organised on Monday evening.
The format of the workshop is a series of oral presentations. No written documents are required.
The potential speakers are invited to provide some basic information and submit the following online form.
We are looking for a good balance between academics and younger researchers and we will do our best to accommodate all the potential speakers.
The workshop will be held at the Clifton Hill House, University of Bristol (Lower Clifton Hill, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 1BX). Clifton Hill House was built between 1746 and 1750 as an imposing semi-rural mansion of Palladian inspiration. In 1909, Clifton Hill House started its hall life as a 'Women's Hostel', accommodating 15 young ladies, and is now a popular mixed hall of residence, housing a vibrant community of 225 students from the University of Bristol. In November 2004, Clifton Hill House was the winner of the London Georgian Group Architectural Awards in the category 'Restoration of a Georgian Country House'. This prestigious national award is held annually to assess the best restoration works across the United Kingdom, and attracted 87 entrants that year.
