To be considered for April entry, applications must be received by 31st October of the previous year.
Do I need to be a Qualified Dental Hygienist before I apply?
Yes, you must already be qualified as a Dental Hygienist and registered/ working in the United Kingdom (U.K) before you submit you application.
Do I need any further qualifications/ certificates before I can apply?
Yes, we ask that you also hold certificates in Dental Radiography and Dental Anaesthesia (including both local infiltration and block techniques). These subjects may have been covered and assessed as part of your Hygiene qualification, we would need details of the curriculum contents of your course programme with your application.
How long should I work as a qualified Dental Hygienist before I can apply?
There is no time limit set you may apply at any time, although it is preferable that you have developed your Dental Hygiene skills with some post qualification work experience.
Can I still work as a Dental Hygienist whilst studying Dental Therapy?
Yes, the Dental Therapy programme allows you to do this as it is run over 2 days per week.
General Programme information
How long is the Dental Therapy course, which days of the week do I attend?
The programme runs over two years with 6 weeks set holidays per year. The student intake of April 2017 will attend on Tuesday & Wednesday each week.
Is the whole programme taught from the same location?
The majority of classroom teaching and clinical skills laboratory work is set in Bristol Dental Hospital. As the programme progresses you will be expected to attend outreach dental centres on a weekly basis such as South Bristol Community Hospital.
Do I need to provide my own CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check in advance of starting university?
No. If you are successful in being offered a place on our programme all relevant paperwork would be organised by us in advance of your start date, this includes an enhanced CRB check.
Do I need to provide any health information in advance of starting university?
Yes, if you accept an offer from us, you will receive a pre-programme health questionnaire with requests for blood testing for communicable diseases (Hepatitis B, C and HIV), from our Occupational Health Service. Entry onto the course will be subject to satisfactory health clearance by the Occupational Health Service. You will also be asked to supply details from your Doctor regarding past immunisations and health.
What would my personal expenses be?
Currently each training place is fully supported with no course fees for applicants.
