Background

I graduated from Cardiff University in 2015 with an MChem (hons) degree in chemistry with an emphasis on catalysis. After some time working in medical research and teaching laboratories I joined the OGU in July 2017 as a research analyst for the Green Sahara Project.

Role

The Green Sahara Project is focused on a period in which North Africa underwent significant changes to its environment. A variety of proxies are being applied in conjunction with researchers in Kings College, London to reconstitute the subsistence changes and cultural innovations present in this time. As a research analyst, I perform analysis on archaeological potsherds to identify absorbed organic residues. Using lipid biomarkers and stable isotope compositions, these can be characterised to provide evidence of major plant and animal products processed in the pottery.
