Application deadline: Friday 21st May 2021, 10am

The Global Public Health Research Strand at the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute is pleased to offer funding to enable University of Bristol academic staff to organise virtual or, when circumstances allow, face to face workshops focusing on research into global public health issues with a particular focus on Low- and Middle-Income Country (LMIC) settings.

This scheme has been designed particularly to support workshops which are geared towards building or enhancing international partnerships with researchers or organisations in LMICs, and which have strong potential for producing international co-authored publications and/or future international research bids. All workshop proposals must include involvement from LMIC partners and co-produced events are especially welcome. Workshops should be interactive events which involve two-way knowledge exchange, rather than dissemination events. This funding scheme is therefore not suitable for applications to support conferences.

Proposals for workshops on any aspect of public health of relevance in LMIC settings are invited, but preference will be given to proposals which align with the Strand’s priority areas:

  • Women’s and young people’s reproductive and sexual health
  • Mental health
  • Prevention of infection
  • Multimorbidity (co-existing health conditions)
  • Consequences of COVID-19 and pandemic recovery

Up to £11,000 is available overall in this call, with a maximum of £3,500 per application. Funds may be used, for example, to support professional online workshop facilitation, communication and administrative support. The deadline for receipt of applications is 10am on Friday 21 May. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of University of Bristol experts, and applicants will be informed of the outcome by Friday 4 June. All funds must be spent by 31 December 2021.
