Unusual species of Spider found on Bristol Downs

Unusual species of Spider found on Bristol Downs this month by undergraduate, James Brown

The spider was found early this month by one of our undergraduate students James Brown. Mark Pajak at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery said the following, "That’s a nice spider! I have never actually seen one of these, but the abdomen is very distinctive. It is  Cyclosa conica , an orb weaver spider."

It was found near The Circular road and the Peregrine Watch where a group were based on the Downs as part of an ecology practical introducing the students to common plants and birds.
