The Fourth John Addington Symonds Celebration
28 November 2017
An audio recording is now available of Dr. Jen Grove's talk: 'EP Warren’s Classical Erotica: LGBT+ activism and objects from the past'
For our fourth annual celebration of John Addington Symonds, 19th Century Bristol-born writer, art historian and pioneer of homosexual rights, we were delighted to collaborate once again with OutStories Bristol to host a lecture on the history of sexuality and its relationship to the reception of the Classical past.
Dr Jen Grove (Exeter) gave an informed talk about EP Warren and Classical Erotica. EP Warren was an early 20th Century Classicist who developed a passion for collecting evidence of same-sex relations in the ancient world. Most famously, he gave his name to the Warren Cup, now in the British Museum. You can listen to her talk below.
Our thanks to OutStories for their assistance in organising the talk, for their continued support, and for providing this recording.
