Classics TeachMeet

16 November 2017, 5.00 PM - 16 November 2017, 7.00 PM

Lecture Theatre 2, Arts Complex, 3-5 Woodland Road

We are delighted to announce that our first Classics TeachMeet for primary and secondary teachers will be held on 16th November in the Arts Complex on Woodland Road.

Through the hub, we aim to foster regional Classics expansion and encourage the sharing of expertise and the development of new approaches to Classics teaching. This TeachMeet will give you the opportunity to share ideas and to meet other Classics teachers in an informal environment.

Everyone is welcome, whether you are teaching Latin, Greek, Classical Civilisation or Ancient History on the curriculum, or whether you are running a Classics club or embedding Classics into the teaching of English or other subjects. It doesn't matter whether you have been teaching Classics for many years or for just a few weeks!

If you would like to share an idea or an example of how you are teaching (or planning to introduce) Classics in your own school, you can sign-up to give a short 4 or 8 minute presentation. Alternatively, you may prefer just to come along and listen. This event is FREE but please register for the event here, indicating whether you would like a 'Presenter' ticket or an 'Audience only' ticket.

  • Drinks and refreshments in the Humanities Student Common Room: 5.00 - 5.30pm
  • Presentations in Lecture Theatre 2, Arts Complex, Woodland Road: 5.30pm onwards (expected finish 6.45pm)

Please access the Arts Complex through the main entrance at 3-5 Woodland Road. The Hums Common Room and Lecture Theatre 2 will be clearly signed from the main entrance. Free parking is available on surrounding streets (e.g. Woodland Road, Priory Road and Tyndalls Park Road) after 5pm.

Update 6/11/17

Currently 8 people have signed up to give presentations on a wide range of topics and over 25 teachers have registered as attending. However there are still a few 'presenter' slots available so do get in touch if you would like to share an idea.

We're also pleased to announce that we will be holding a raffle during the event. Several publishers and authors have kindly donated new copies of Classics books and teaching resources. We'll also be displaying a large selection of second-hand Classics books, all of which are free to take away!
