The History of Art department is delighted to welcome two new members of staff, Elizabeth Robles and Gemma Brace!
Dr Elizabeth Robles will be joining us first as a British Academy Fellow and then as Lecturer in Contemporary Art. She previously worked as a Teaching Associate with the History of Art Department at the University of Bristol and as a part time lecturer in Art History at Bath Spa University. Her research focuses on re-centreing the visual and the art historical within discourses around the intersections of race, gender and representation, most notably in her forthcoming monograph Tracing a Legacy: Black British Art Since the 1980s (MUP, 2018). She has been awarded a three-year BA Fellowship ‘Making Waves: Black Artists & ‘Black Art’ in Britain from 1963-1982’ which she will take up at the University while also developing her teaching portfolio as Lecturer in Contemporary Art.
Gemma Brace is joining us from the Royal West of England Academy as our new Teaching Fellow and Curator in History of Art, Heritage and Museums. She comes with over eight years’ experience working in the arts including curating, writing, editing and exhibition management. Previous projects/roles have included Regional Editor and contributing writer for Art,Art,Art magazine; Gallery Committee member for community arts gallery Centrespace, Studio Co-ordinator for Jamaica Street Artists, freelance writing for Art magazine, co-curator of FELT.
