Applications are now invited for AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award with National Portrait Gallery. Closing date 28 March 2014.

The three year collaborative doctoral award with the University of Bristol History of Art Department and National Portrait Gallery (as part of the AHRC Thames Consortium) will investigate the production, transmission, and reception of engraved photographic theatrical portraiture in the mid-19th century. It will be co-supervised by Dr Dorothy Rowe, Dr Robin Francis (Head of the Heinz Archive and Library at the National Portrait Gallery) and Dr Catherine Hindson (Drama and Theatre Studies).

The project ties in with a larger AHRC standard grant application currently under review, entitled 'The Visual Culture of Theatrical Celebrity in Britain 1830-1930' and submitted by Dr Rowe in collaboration with Dr Lee Marshall (Sociology) and Dr Catherine Hindson (Drama and Theatre Studies).
