History of Art PhDs gain academic jobs

Two of History of Art's recent PhDs have recently been appointed to permanent jobs in the academy – a particularly significant achievement in view of the financial hardships currently affecting universities worldwide.

Dr Xin Wu will be Assistant Professor of Art and Art History at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Xin’s book, From Visual Arts to Environment: Patricia Johanson and the Re-invention of Public Landscape, 1958-2010, is forthcoming from Ashgate; it is based on her Bristol dissertation, supervised by Professor Stephen Bann.

Dr Sally-Anne Huxtable is currently a Senior Research Assistant in Design History at Northumbria University, working on the project 'Fashion and Everyday Life, 1890-2010' in collaboration with the Parsons School of Design in New York City. Huxtable, who was supervised at Bristol by Professor Elizabeth Prettejohn, will take up a permanent post as Lecturer in Design History at Northumbria in August 2011.
