Cleaning and safety in residences

This year we have extra measures in place to ensure your safety while living in University accommodation.

You should always follow the government guidelines.

To keep our community safe we are providing you with masks and visors to use on campus. Wear a face-covering in all our buildings including common areas in residences where you might interact with people outside of your household, their entrances and the streets which buildings are directly accessed from. You do not need to wear a face-covering inside your household.

Washing your hands is still the most effective way to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus.

Cleaning and safety measures in your accommodation

Each hall is COVID-secure and was certificated prior to the start of term to ensure your safety and that of staff. We have increased the frequency of cleaning to help keep you safe. We will regularly clean areas that are in high use, including building entrances, stairwells and landings. Cleaning will include touchpoints such as door handles, lift buttons and handrails.

Your accommodation has social distancing measures in place. This may include a combination of one-way systems, distance markers, and signage. There are hand sanitising stations at main entrances and exits.

Communal spaces

There are signs on the doors of communal social and study spaces to tell you how many people can safely use the space at one time.

Some facilities in your accommodation may be opened or closed if UK or local alert levels change.

In your flat

You don’t need to socially distance from other members of your household.

Kitchens, bathrooms and communal areas of your flat are cleaned regularly at a scheduled time. We will let you know the cleaning timetable for your flat.

During the scheduled cleaning times for your flat, stay in your room or arrange to be out of your accommodation. This protects you and the cleaning staff.

If government guidance changes

These measures might change if government guidance or the UK alert levels change. We will let you know about any changes.
